Gruyere Brioche Braid

I have never tasted gruyere cheese..and so when Alice of I Love I Cook I Bake made her selection to bake this gruyere cheese bread for our The Home Bakers # 22( THB ) , i was hoping that i could get this cheese here. Although i can replace the cheese with some other cheese, i thought it would be a best time to get the cheese to make this bread since i ve never tasted the cheese before. Whooh, i cracked a beautiful smile when i saw a block of gruyere cheese selling on the supermarket, it is not a normal sight of these cheese on the shelves, you know. Checked the price, rather pricey for that block of cheese but never mind cos i really wanted to try it.

the shredded cheese to be incorporated into the dough

Not too bad..i can accept the taste of the cheese..the level of saltiness is quite mild..perhaps this is a young cheese as i read that it will develop a much stronger taste as it matures. I made 2/3 of the recipe and came out quite a huge loaf.  To get the full recipe, please visit Alice of I Love I Cook I Bake. You can also view everyone's Gruyere Brioche Braid here

  6. Hi Lena,
I have never tried Gruyere cheese before, not easily available at my area. It is so expensive that I always substitute with other cheese! Koo-hon!!
Your bread looks great, with very nice texture and lovely crust!
    You made it, phew!! :)

  9. Lena, this sounds and looks so good, I love Gruyere and anything that's made with it. One summer I worked in Switzerland. One day when I was off of work I took a little train and hiking adventure. I ended up in Gruyere, Switzerland. The whole town smells like the cheese!! whew!

  13. Hi Lena,

Knowing you... I know that you are the kind of person who appreciate good quality food and appliances. I remember telling you that the cheap cheap basic Sunbeam ice cream ice maker has been working well for me before and I can tell you are giving the skeptical look - LOL!!!!

Glad that you tried Gruyere with this recipe!!! Being Gruyere lovers, we will never substitute Gruyere with other cheese :p

  22. Hi Lena, I love the delicate braid in the bread. I've made bread with Gruyere before, in combination with potatoes and rosemary and it was pretty good, but I never tried to braid it :).

    You're a nice inspiration.
    See ya around,
    Miriam.

  23. I have missed so much here and I promise I will take the time to check back on many past posts. It is just a little hard for me to come back full time, still a mess in my life right now and I have so enjoyed all the support from my friends. Of course bread and cheese I could not help myself from commenting and wishing I had a piece right now. I have not had gruyere cheese very often (maybe because I can't really pronounce it right) ;)

  25. I love a good cheese and greyere is one of them. How did you find it? It's not too strong is it? I think it will pair very well with brioche indeed!
